<No. 1 Seafood Squid>
Squid production by Korean deep see fishing vessels accounts for about 50% of the country's squid production. Most of the catch is made in the waters of the Falkland Islands.
The official name of the squid caught by deep sea fishing boats(Jigging) is Argentine short-finned squid. It is similar in appearance and size to the flesh squid caught in Korea's coastal waters.
Squid is rich in protein and contains high amounts of taurine.
Squid is the number one favorite seafood of Koreans.

- - Argentine shortfin squid (Illex argentinus)
- Korean deep sea fishing fleets fish in the Falklands, chill them on board, and distribute them in Korea. Argentine shortfin squid is thawed on Jeju Island and dried in the wind on Jeju Island, and is called Junchi.
- - Mitra squid (Loligo chinesis)
- In Korea, it is mainly caught in Jeju Island. It is also brought into Korea by Korean pelagic fishing boats from the Falklands. It is named hanchi because its legs are short about 3 cm, which called ‘hanchi’ in Korean.
- - Jumbo flying squid (Humboldt squid)
- Fished primarily in South America (Peru, Chile, etc.). It typically reach a total length of 50~80cm,, and weighs about 2~3 kg. The largest ones reached about 4m. It is used as a raw material for processed products due to its tough flesh compared to smaller squid.
